DID YOU KNOW?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most used forms of medicine on the planet.

People want to know how many treatments they will need to experience relief from their symptoms. It depends. If the complaint is acute, that is, if it came on suddenly, I recommend 1-3 treatments. If the symptoms(s) are chronic, say longer than a 3 months, I recommend coming for 3-5 treatments.  Sometimes resolution is immediate. Other times it takes longer. We will assess it as we go along, discuss it, and treat accordingly. In any case, I always recommend that patients see their primary care physician to get a Western diagnosis.

The needles used are single use, pre-packaged, sterilized and FDA approved. They are extremely thin, measuring only a fraction of a millimeter in thickness. Forty of them can fit into the hollow space of a hypodermic needle used to draw blood.

Acupuncture is rapidly becoming integrated into Western Medical settings. In New York City alone, it is practiced at the hospitals of St. Vincent’s, Sloane Kettering, Beth Israel, New York Presbyterian, Roosevelt, and St. Luke’s to name a few.

Acupuncture is a natural way to reduce stress and release chronic tension (holding patterns) in the musculature and fascia. It releases endorphins which are powerful hormones that put the body into a state of “rest and digest” as opposed to “fight or flight”. An acupuncture treatment calms the emotions and mind while at the same time has a regulatory effect on all the systems of the body.
